Communicating Using Technology
|
Communicating with parents is a major priority for me as an educator. On the first day of school, I send home a positive 'Meet the Teacher' letter just to inform them a little bit about myself. I truly believe that establishing a connection with the parents is a critical part in making the year go well. The 'Meet the Teacher' letter located on the left is an example of one that I created at Dublin Elementary School.
Along with a 'Meet the Teacher' letter, I send home a note asking for parents to join the REMIND app or a LMS system like SeeSaw. I always like to use these communication tools to keep up with parents about materials, information about extracurricular events and to send out reminders. To add, I would also like to create a google classroom or use Blackboard Coursesites where the students can submit assignments from the freedom of their own home. I am aware that not every student will have access to internet, in this case they will be accommodated for. The website will allow students to print off assignments, submit assignments, print out or view information about extracurricular events or even reminders. By the end of the year, I would love to have online discussions about concepts we are learning about in class. Texts will be sent out using the REMIND app in order for parents to be updated on what is going on within the school or district. The texts will mostly be used for last minute reminders about events or extracurricular activities going on during the week. |
