New Teacher starting in 1st grade
The day before I graduated I officially accepted the job as a first grade teacher at Crestview Elementary in Waco, Texas. A few hours after graduation, I packed up and moved down to the city. Since then it has been quite the roller coaster ride! A ride I will never forget. I started in January of 2016 with 23 students. My job was to ensure that all students were leaving the grade level already knowing how to read. At the same time, I was still learning the science and art of teaching. It was a tough yet successful year in the end. During the summer, I focused on attending conferences dealing with classroom management and an ELAR academy.
Teacher with a plan for 2017
After my first semester as an official teacher, I immediately became reflective and set new goals for myself to prepare me for my first full year.
1. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
2. Be a leader
3. Be reflective
Classroom management was my main priority for the first 6-12 weeks. Constantly repeating procedures, going over the rules and modeling everything. As a first year teacher, I do have to say that I was very successful with this first goal.
